Somewhat Belated September Play Therapy Wrap-Up
Hope everyone is enjoying the onset of Autumn. I'm a little late with this post, but September was a pretty successful month for article hunting so I wanted to share some of the notable items I've posted to our articles and resources page in the past few weeks.
It's been a while since I came across any about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy , but I recently discovered these four interesting items, including a couple of very insightful case reports:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: The Quick Fix? by Thomas Larkin
Cognitive Behavioral Approaches to ADHD Treatment in Adulthood by Steven A. Safren, Ph.D.
Evaluation of Group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy For Adults with ADHD
Integrating Play Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy by Athena A. Drewes, PsyD, RPT-S
The Research and Case Reports section of MyPlayTherapyPage.com is perhaps the most valuable on the site, and it's constantly growing. Here are a few more that have been added recently:
Music Therapy and Young Children
Fifteen Effective Play Therapy Techniques by Tara M. Hall, Heidi Gerard Kaduson, and Charles E. Schaefer
Managing and Treating the Sexually Acting Out Child
Wanna talk shop? Here are a couple of great articles dealing directly with making your practice a success:
Success Story by Lynn Grodzki, LCSW, MCC
Marketing Lessons for Mental Health Professionals by David P. Diana, LPC, NCC
September Play Therapy news was mostly your standard fare, but there were a couple interesting articles. One dealing with Bibliotherapy, a topic of interest to me lately, and some old news made new again concerning Play Therapy and Autism. Also, we have an update on the bizarre case of the chain-smoking toddler who has been receiving play therapy intervention to cure his addiction.
Kitchener Therapist Finds Healing in Books by Valerie Hill
Imaginative Play Therapy for Autism by Martin F. Downs
"Smoking Baby" Stops Smoking -- But Can It Last? (CBS News)
Does anybody know of anything else that went under my radar this month? Let me know in the comments section. I found out about many upcoming conferences and workshops in the forthcoming months, which I will be posting soon.
Have a crisp and lovely October!
